50th Anniversary

Celebrate the Rebecca Crown Library 50th Anniversary

On Tuesday, April 11, 1972, the Rebecca Crown Library at Dominican University officially opened. Often referred to as “the heart of campus,” the Rebecca Crown Library has undergone many changes since 1972, such as moving the library school from the lower level to the third floor and the recent renovations of creating the student-centered Learning Commons. These renovations to the building's original design and function have demonstrated time and again that the Rebecca Crown Library, at its core, has always been a community-focused library that uploads the ideals of Caritas et Veritas.

We are excited to announce that 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the Rebecca Crown Library's opening and dedication! The current Rebecca Crown Library staff and faculty are thrilled and honored to celebrate this milestone at Dominican University. As part of the anniversary festivities, we are hosting several events and programs that highlight the construction, history, and future of the library building, and honor the many students and employees who have brought the space to life over the years. Anniversary events also consider the significant history of the Phyllis Skiffington Noonan Reading Room - the original library on the River Forest Campus.

We invite you to take a few moments this semester to reflect on your experiences in the Rebecca Crown Library, as student, staff, faculty, emeritus, friend, or alumni of Dominican University. The American Library Association is hosting National Library Week in April this year, with the theme "Connect with Your Library." This event invites us to reflect on how we connect with the libraries in our lives. In honor of National Library Week, we invite you to ask: How has the Rebecca Crown Library impacted your life?
